Tron (1982) -- Considering that this was probably made just to show off the cool computer effects, Tron is a surprisingly good movie. It could have easily just crapped up a story and flashed around, but it didn't, and everything in the movie actually makes sense and has a logic to it that is far greater than that of The Matrix years later. Of course, the effects do look great, even for today, and by "great," I don't just mean that they look like cool special effects: I mean the design is original and appropriate to the feel of the movie and story. Some of the set pieces are especially nice--all the Tron "sports" that eventually got made into the arcade version.
