Phantasm (1979) -- Like a lot of horror movies, parts of this just don't make sense (like the finger coming to life and having a personality, for no reason other than it's something the director thought would look cool), but the entire thing is pretty fun to watch and has a good sense of style and direction. Everyone remembers the silver ball, but it actually only appeared during two scenes. The Tall Man is certainly memorable too. (Don Coscarelli also directed the sequel, Phantasm II.)
